The Scientific Centre of Excellence for Viral Immunology and Vaccines was officially proclaimed on November 10th, 2014 by the National Council for Science of the Republic of Croatia, following a rigorous national and international evaluation process.
Coordinated by Prof. Stipan Jonjić, PhD, the Centre brings together leading Croatian scientific, teaching, and clinical institutions with a shared goal: to advance our understanding of virus–immune system interactions and translate that knowledge into innovative vaccines, therapies, and biopharmaceutical solutions.
The Centre’s work connects internationally recognized partners, including the Faculty of Medicine, University of Rijeka, the Centre for Research and Knowledge Transfer in Biotechnology, University of Zagreb, and the University Hospital for Infectious Diseases “Dr. Fran Mihaljević”.
Since its establishment, the Centre has focused on cutting-edge research in viral immunology, vaccine and vector development, immunometabolism, highly pathogenic viruses, immune checkpoint targeting in cancer therapy, and advanced biopharmaceutical production.
Guided by its Scientific and Advisory Board and supported by a clear partnership and management structure, the Centre serves as a national hub for excellence, collaboration, and innovation in the fight against infectious diseases and tumors.
